INCREASE CLUB HEAD SPEED, SHOULDER TURN, AND POWER WITH THESE TIPS!

Two of the most important things to increase shoulder turn, increase club head speed and to deliver more power into the golf ball is being at number one being able to keep the left elbow straight in the top of the back swing. When you go to the top of the back swing and bend your elbow, it completely kills your ability to generate club head speed because you’re not maintaining the distance of your hands away from your chest. So number one is maintaining the left elbow and then number two is maintaining your line and I’m going to show you how to fix both of these things. After I show you what I’m talking about here, so we got the alignment stick on the ground, you can see that right.
When I set up in my stance, this is where so many golfers lose power. Club head speed and distances right here. When they tu the club back like this, I’m wrapping it around my body. I’m wrapping the club around my body versus if you want to generate more power, take your hands. There’s the target, take your hands directly away from the target. So when you take your hands away from the target versus taking your hands around and wrapping your club around, you’re going to be able to generate more club head speed. So those are the two most important things to generate or get more shoulder turn, generate more club head speed and to be able to deliver more power into the golf ball. Now how do we prove? Improve it? How do we work on it? Number one, let get another. Align that sticks because it’s lighter. It’s going to allow your brain to use the right muscles to actually accomplish the right movement. Number one was being able to have a straight left elbow in the top of the Blackstone without letting it bend so grip it like you normally would grip a golf club.
Going to the back so I’ really focusing on turning that belt buck on keeping pressure through the inside of that right foot and then at the top of the back swing, take your knuckles, your left knuckles and push them directly away from the target. So this is a huge exaggeration just so you can see it so now I’m going to do it in real time. I’m going to turn my belt buckle, load the inside of my right foot and I’m pushing my knuckles away from the target and because this alignment stick is light. I can actually let go of my right hand. Now I can feel muscles working here to maintain that extension. Watch my shoulder turn. See how it increases as I push. I’m not wrapping the club around my neck that brings us into step number two. Actually we’ll use the same thing with AL alignment stick.
A dress position and instead of taking your hands around your body that I see so many people doing if I could just get the club back farther, I’ll be able to swing it faster. It’s not true you’re defying the laws of physics. So what you want to do is take your hands directly away from the target, directly away from the target, not over here, directly away from the target. So this alignment, stick here on the ground, get about. I don’t know half a foot away, your toes half foot away. And as you go into the back swing, think about keeping your left elbow or your left arm in perfect parallel with the line. But stick on the ground, you can see if I bring my arms here now there’s a V right, so they’re not in parallel anymore. Go back, keep your left elbow in parallel with the lament. Stick on the ground. That’s how you can start training your brain to go straight back versus wrapping it around and losing all the power. So in summary.
There’s two really simple ways not necessarily easy. Simple ways on how you can increase shoulder turn, generate more club head speed and deliver more power into the golf ball. Number one, straight left elbow number two is take your hands directly away from the target versus wrapping it around. Make sure you try it out. Try ten reps of each right, so ten reps of trying to get your left elbow straight and letting go the hand. Hold it for ten seconds.
Readdress, take it back. Take your left hand or right hand away from it. Hold this for ten seconds. Try doing that ten times when you can do that ten times then come to alignment. Stick half a foot away. Your toes are half a foot away from the stick. Go back. Make sure your or your left arm is in parallel with that. Alignment stick see if you can do it there and just do it over and over and over again. Repetition is key with this one. Get it to where you don’t have to think about anymore. Dr. Jake Berman

After graduating from the University of Florida, Dr. Jake Berman, PT, DPT sought out mentorship first from Bob Seton in Destin, FL and then from Aaron Robles in Jacksonville, FL. Both of these mentors have 20+ years of experience helping people keep active and mobile so they can enjoy high quality active lifestyles. What Jake found was that back pain was by far the most debilitating pain and the highest factor leading to decreased physical activity later in life. These experiences are what inspired Jake to specialize in helping people aged 50+ keep active, mobile and pain free despite the aging process. There is nothing more rewarding than being able to alleviate somebody’s back pain so that they can get back to living their best life- especially in Naples! Over the years of helping 100’s of people aged 65-75 become stronger and pain free, one thing for sure has become apparent: “he who rests rots”. Jake is a firm believer that we become stiff then old, not old then stiff. Seriously, think about it...
